In the National Football League, there are good teams, average teams, and, well, not so good teams. But how do you really know which teams are over-performing and which teams are under-performing? If only there were some sort of all-encompassing metric for NFL team power rankings…
That’s where we come in with our Pro Football Magazine team power rankings. We developed a metric and back-tested it over the last 7 NFL seasons to assign each team a rating between 0-100 (100 being the absolute best), and we call it the PFM Rating.
Our metric takes various variables and factors into account, and we don’t claim it should be the final say in which teams are good or not, but at the very least, it should give you an idea each week who is playing well and who is not playing so well. The factors we take into account in this metric include:
- Strength of schedule
- Margin of Victory
- Points Scored
- Points Allowed
- Team Passing Offense
- Team Rushing Offense
- Team distance traveled
- Team Passing Defense
- Team Rushing Defense
Each week we’ll publish our updated Power Rankings throughout the regular season. Of course, we know that there are plenty of other NFL power rankings out there, but those are usually one person’s opinion and quite subjective Please let us know if you have any feedback, as always! And yes, of course we hate your team.
